Because information is a female and it wants to be loved, paraded, “alagada,” cooed, and shown to the world in its most beautiful state, I give you my very beautiful words. Each time I read a word that catches my attention, I place it in the back of my journal. Several journals later, I am thinking perhaps this is not a wise process and could be improved. Enjoy!

English:
cantankerous: sounds really gross but it means disagreeable to meet. In other words you look at their partner and wonder how the heck they’ve stayed together for so long.
persnickety: fussy! An individual who has to have things their way, type A personality
lugubriously: what you wear to a funeral. Something gloomy and morose
torrid: ardent and passionate; like a tornado or wild fire
vituperate: to morally corrupt
posturing: Very cool new twist to this old word: adopting a vein and conceited attitude
morass: Marshy ground. Sounds almost like a curse word but totally benign in nature
prawn: It sounds like prim and sophisticated way of dancing and prancing. I was so disappointed to know it meant large shrimp. However, in Australia it appears that it can also mean to deceive someone…haha!
peal: a loud prolonged ringing of bells
bloviate: Think college textbooks: thick, pompous and excessive incomprehensible diction
macerate: To soften or decompose by water. When it comes to humans, wasting away.
deciduous: falls off at the end of its growth period, bad deciduous teeth, bad
panniers: satchel, back pack, old word, beautiful
fungible: legal term, adj, can be legally replaced by
fustian: a bombastic inflated and excessive speech…think Oscars
murrain: the plague, frambosia, yellow skin and genitals…eewwww!
surfeit: noun-excess, verb-to do in excess, typically associated with eating or drinking
basophobia- Inability to stand; fear of walking or falling
xenophobia: fear of outsiders, the red scare
diatribe: bitter sharp and abusive denunciation (n.)
trestles: a frame that looks like a bridge, table or plank
attenuated: to soften, make slender, weaker or less virulent
corrugated: to wrinkle, rust and furrow…gett’n old
opine: to give your opinion fearlessly and with hesitation (hallellujah)
pablum: trite, insipid, simplistic idea
fastidious: high end chick, someone hard to please
picayune: of little value, trifling
rantipole: ranty, riotous, ruckus, wild, ill-behaved individual (thank you, Dickens)
pranam: respectful salutation (Leyner uses this alot)
chrysalis: the butterfly’s cocoon
peony: I love this word b/c it tricked me, it’s actually a type of plant with pink and white flowers, I thought it was adjective form of peon, a lower ranked individual
gowk: foolish person; an opportunistic bird who places their eggs in other birds nest so as not to have responsibility (thank you M. Quinon from World Wide Words)
truculent: tricky and turbulent, be nice females
hoosegow: juzgado, but Texafied into meaning tribunal or jail
dapper: neat, trim and proper; Kai was a dapper guy
literator: one who looks at the trifles of literature or learned individual, may be associated with the next word
seditious: rebellious, and incendiary insurgent
blagging: informal conversation in a public place
perfidy: to deceive, treachery or break vows…ouch
lassitude: soft lazyness
smote: to strike hard, injure or slay far kin to the word smitten, LOL, if they only knew!!
shew: archaic form of the word shown
blusterous: my favorite student in class, the loud, boastful can’t stop talking kid
awning: a canvas to provide protection, shelter
spangled: small bright object like shakira, think laughter
valise: a small piece of hand luggage
exorbitant: outrageous, extreme, literally out of the track, se salio afuera de honda
assiduity: devoted and solicited attention ;)
besmirched: to make dirty or soil: think reputation
speleology: study of caves
pertinacity: the quality of being pertinacious; persistence: YEAH!
prolixity: extended to great, unnecessary, or tedious length; long and wordy
attercop: (this was in Harry Potter) cross-grained, ill natured, venomous person (I have a couple of exes in this category!)
wilfing: aimless and time-consuming online browsing (now, What was I Looking For?)
philfing: hidden charges (purposely hiding what i was looking for)
ruminate: to chew over and over again or ponder
Parc fermé: literally meaning “closed park” in French, is a term used to describe
a secure area at a Grand Prix circuit where the cars may be stored
halberd: a long spike with an ax on the handle bar
drollery: whimsical, comical, like a puppet show
perfused: like percolate, to diffuse a liquid color or smell over a large area
perspicuous: ooohhh…clearly presented; lucid, nice word!!!!
demurrage: a charge for such undue detention
ebullient: overflowing with fervor, enthusiasm, or excitement; high-spirited: The award winner was in an ebullient mood at the dinner in her honor; bubbling up like a boiling liquid.
cromulent: fine (adj.; slang…thanks jrg)

Spanish:
alborozo: (my uncle gave me this one) extreme rejoice, happiness or disorder
alabastrina: (Agustin Lara, gave this one) skin soft, white, translucent and/or pure

    I’ve considered doing a glossary, too. Mine will be Southern colloquial expressions, because I can’t find definitions for a lot of them on Wordnet! And no, I won’t be recording pronunciation and embedding them as MPEG. You’ll just have to imagine the way I’d say it. ;o)
